The Airport currently has the following Airport Improvement Program (AIP) projects in work:

  1. Runway Safety Area:  This project has been in work for a number of years but still has several months of work left.  The basic project is complete so the airport has 500 feet of runway safety area on each end of Runway 3-21.

  2. 15,000 feet of perimeter fence has been installed with the remaining 6,000 feet being requested as part of the 2012 AIP project.

  3. Wildlife Hazard Assessment:  This 15 month project will evaluate the wildlife at the airport and recommend changes to enhance the safety of landing aircraft.  This project will be accomplished by Loomacres Company.

AIP projects are 95% funded by the FAA with 5% funded by state and airport.  This funding can only be used for projects in the movement area of the airport and cannot be used for Operations, Maintenance, payroll or other infrastructure needs.  For example, these funds cannot repair hangars, buildings or tractors.
AIP funding is based upon passengers flying from the airport.  Full AIP is $ One Million dollars.  In order to rate full AIP the airport needs 10,000 passengers per year, otherwise the airport only rates $150,000 for this type of repair.
